Street Fighter may have just KO’d principal photography: director Kitao Sakurai signaled on Instagram that the live-action adaptation has wrapped after more than two months of filming.

It looks like the new live-action Street Fighter might have finished shooting. Emphasis on 'might.' The director dropped a pretty telling Instagram Story, a couple cast members said they were done weeks ago, and a trade-y account called it a wrap. But there still isn't an official announcement, so consider this very likely, not confirmed.

So... did they actually wrap?

Director Kitao Sakurai posted an Instagram Story with a clapperboard and some charming pixel art of Ken and Chun-Li. Fans and a few outlets read that as a quiet victory lap for the end of filming. One aggregator even planted a flag about it:

'STREET FIGHTER has wrapped filming. In theaters October 16, 2026.'

Officially, though, nobody from the studio has said the words. And until someone does, it's a very strong hint, not a done deal.

Where the production stands

Cameras started rolling a little over two months ago. Since then, multiple actors have mentioned finishing their parts — including Orville Peck (he's playing Vega), who said back in October that his work was done. Put that next to Sakurai's clapperboard tease, and yeah, it tracks that principal photography is likely in the can.

What this version is aiming for

Sakurai is directing from a screenplay by Dalan Musson, with Sakurai developing the movie from that script. Street Fighter is dated for theaters on October 16, 2026.

The official logline lays out the throwback angle and the tournament hook:

"In 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don't, it's GAME OVER!"

Setting it in 1993 is a fun swing — it leans straight into the franchise's retro roots — and the "they might have to fight each other" wrinkle gives the tournament more juice than just bracket matches.

Previous live-action runs at Street Fighter

  • 1994: Street Fighter, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel William F. Guile
  • 2009: Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
  • 2014: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, a web series/feature that premiered on YouTube

If the studio pops the champagne and makes it official, I'll update. For now, signs point to "wrapped," even if the press release hasn't landed yet.
