Stranger Things Officially Confirms Finale Runtime — But One Episode Runs Even Longer
Stranger Things is going out like a blockbuster, with its final episode set to run feature length.
Stranger Things is on its last lap, but the show is not going quietly. Netflix says the series finale is basically a feature: 2 hours and 5 minutes of monster-fighting, bike-riding, Hawkins weirdness to close things out.
The finale is movie-length (but not the longest)
Netflix officially clocked the Stranger Things series finale at 2:05. That is slightly shorter than season 4’s jumbo-sized closer, which ran 2:19, but still firmly in 'yep, that’s a movie' territory. Translation: there is plenty of time left with the Hawkins crew as they take one last swing at Vecna and the Upside Down.
They have known the ending for years
Matt and Ross Duffer didn’t just figure this out in the edit bay. They have been sitting on the final beats since the early days, which, love or hate the plan, usually helps stick the landing.
'Obviously, it's stressful trying to figure out how you want to end the show. Luckily, it was about six or seven years ago that we knew at least what the final scene is. We always knew what the last 40 minutes were going to be.'
- Ross Duffer
And if you are nervous, you are not alone. The creators and the cast have been out there saying the ending will deliver. No spoilers, just confidence.
