Before battling the forces of the Upside Down, Steve Harrington will journey to the Upper Midwest.

The conflict between the evil from the Upside Down, led by Vecna, and the inhabitants of Hawkins will not be gracing our screens anytime soon — Stranger Things Season 5 will not be released until 2025. However, this does not stop the actor who portrays Steve Harrington, Joe Keery, from scaling new heights.

Instead of Indian, the actor will now be putting in an appearance in North Dakota. He will star in the upcoming season of Fargo, set to be released this fall. However, Keery is virtually unrecognisable. Let's take a look at the preview image.

Yes, it's all about the hair — the iconic mullet has been swapped for neatly slicked-back hair resembling an undercut. It is shorter, with a trim (or could those be scars?) on the left temple. If the former hairstyle perfectly encapsulated the rebellious spirit of the 1980s, the latter aligns with the 2010s fashion, blending nonconformity and conformity.

The New Setting

This time around, the events of Noah Hawley's series, based on the Coen brothers' cult film of the same name (who also serve as executive producers on the show), will shift to 2019 and take place in the area between North Dakota and Minnesota.

Another Delay: Do Not Expect Stranger Things Season 5 Until 2025The premise for the upcoming season is 'When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn't your wife?' It's a clever allusion to the plot of both the movie and the show's first season, and it appears we're in for a deconstruction of a conflict trope that has become all too familiar.

The New Cast and Schedue

The cast for Season 5 is as impressive as in the previous seasons. Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), who portrays a housewife with a questionable, shadowy past that has led to conflicts with authorities, and Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Good Omens), who plays the sheriff of North Dakota, headline the cast. Joe Keery will play the role of Hamm's character's son.

'We had a lot of downtime; we watched a bunch of football, we went to dinner and stuff. It was just a real, real pleasure to be around him,' Keery shared how he built rapport with his more experienced colleague to better convey the father-son dynamic.

Season 5 was originally scheduled for release in September 2023, but due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the release has been pushed back to 1 November 2023. You can watch Fargo on FX or stream it on Hulu.
