Stranger Things 5 is going long: Ross Duffer has revealed the runtimes for the final four episodes, culminating in a super-sized finale.

Stranger Things 5 is going out big. Ross Duffer hopped on Instagram and dropped runtimes for the home stretch, and yep, the finale is feature-length. No surprise there, especially since Netflix is actually putting it on the big screen.

The final four runtimes (and titles)

Here is what Duffer says is coming in the back half of the season:

  • Episode 5 - 'Shock Jock' - 1 hour 8 minutes
  • Episode 6 - 'Escape from Camazotz' - 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Episode 7 - 'The Bridge' - 1 hour 6 minutes
  • Series Finale - 'The Rightside Up' - 2 hours 8 minutes

When you can watch

Netflix split the fifth and final season into three drops. Volume One (four episodes) already arrived on November 26. Volume Two (three episodes) hits on Christmas Day. Then the lone, supersized finale lands on New Year's Eve. Clean, simple rollout: 4, then 3, then the big one.

Why the split release actually makes sense this time

Duffer has been pretty open about the schedule. Season 4 got sliced in two on the fly because of the pandemic. This time, they planned for it. He frames Volume One as a self-contained mega-movie with its own climax, and then the last four chapters close out the story. It is a nerdy scheduling detail, but it explains why the arcs feel more intentional this season.

The finale is going theatrical

Netflix is doing something it almost never does: a same-day theatrical rollout. The series finale will play in over 350 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, synced with the streaming release. If you want to feel the Upside Down rumble your seat, here is your shot.

"We are beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters - it is something we have dreamed about for years, and we are so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect - dare we say bitchin' - way to celebrate the end of this adventure."

Also, shoutout to that finale title, 'The Rightside Up' — a neat bit of symmetry to cap the whole ride.
