Stop Watching Demon Slayer Wrong: The Ultimate Watch Order You Need Now

Demon Slayer launches into a bold new chapter as the Infinity Castle films descend, promising the franchise’s most high-stakes showdown yet.
Infinity Castle Part 1 just hit UK cinemas, which means it is officially time to dive back into Demon Slayer. If you have been meaning to start the anime or you are due a refresher, good news: the series is big, but it is not confusing once you know where the overlaps are. And yes, there are overlaps. This franchise loves a recap movie.
Quick refresher: what you are getting into
For newcomers: Demon Slayer (full title: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) kicked off in 2019 with a 26-episode first season. It follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kid whose family is slaughtered and whose sister turns into a demon. He trains up as a demon slayer and climbs the ranks while hunting increasingly nasty villains. It is wildly popular for a reason.
The recap movie wrinkle (aka the anime inside baseball)
Like a lot of anime, Demon Slayer sometimes turns story arcs into compilation films that repackage TV episodes with tweaks. Translation: you do not have to watch every single thing to stay current, because some movies and TV arcs cover the same events.
The big ones to know:
- The Mugen Train movie tells the same story as the first half of season 2 (the Mugen Train Arc). The film came out first; later, the TV version re-told it with some new material. If you watch the movie, you can skip that portion of season 2.
- The To the Swordsmith Village film stitches together the final two episodes of season 2 and the season 3 premiere. So there is overlap there too.
Recommended watch order (with the smart skips)
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 1
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train OR Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2 - Mugen Train Arc
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 2 - Entertainment District Arc
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - To the Swordsmith Village OR Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 3 - Swordsmith Village Arc
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 4 - Hashira Training Arc
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle movie Part 1
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle movie Part 2
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle movie Part 3
