Still Turn Your Nose Up at BLACKPINK? This A-Lister Will Make Love Them
'I love BLACKPINK!' this film star says.
Summary
- K-pop is becoming increasingly popular with Hollywood A-listers.
- A popular British actor has expressed his love for BLACKPINK.
- He didn't expect to love their music at first, but fell for the ambience.
While K-pop is gaining more and more fans from all over the world, there are some people who look down on this music genre, saying that it's superficial and uninteresting. However, it seems that Korean music is quickly spreading throughout Hollywood. For example, Max's infamous show The Idol, which became one of the worst releases of 2023, features BLACKPINK's lead singer Jennie.
Despite the show's failure, the Korean girl band has had a productive year. First and foremost, BLACKPINK have been rocking the world with their ongoing Born Pink tour, which ranked tenth on Billboard's 2023 Year End Top 40 Tours chart. They also headlined this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and became the first Korean band to headline the British Summer Time Hyde Park Festival. Interestingly enough, the latter performance earned BLACKPINK the support of one of Britain's most popular actors.
Hugh Grant Is an Ultimate Gentleman
Throughout his extensive career, Hugh Grant has starred in a number of popular films including Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones's Diary, Paddington 2, Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually and this year's Wonka, opposite Timothée Chalamet.
He is also known as one of the most gentlemanly actors in the business, and for that reason, people may have certain preconceptions about the actor's tastes. Of course, K-pop doesn't usually make the list of his presumed likes. However, it seems that Grant is an avid BLACKPINK fan.
Hugh Grant is an Ardent Blink
After attending BLACKPINK's Hyde Park performance with his daughter, the fan-favorite actor expressed his love for the K-pop band on his Twitter page.
'I have a daughter who dragged me to this thing [BLACKPINK's concert in London]. It's not automatically a grumpy sixty-three-year-old Englishman's cup of tea, you know, K-pop. But it was a huge concert in Hyde Park in London, and she took me along. What was fascinating, she's a very good girl, you know, she's a very good girl at school. She's a very good girl at home. She's marvelous. She turned into a raving nutcase. Suddenly, she's got this hammer in her hand, going crazy like this,' Hugh Grant shared in an interview, imitating his daughter hammering the air.
Apparently, BLACKPINK's music and vibe were contagious. At least they were enough to win over the actor.
'It's like a possessed child. It's like The Exorcist. But after an hour, I'm [hammering the air, too],' the actor said, vehemently displaying the movement. 'They're amazing, I love them.' Hugh Grant Added.
Well, if this gentleman can enjoy BLACKPINK, there's absolutely no reason why we can't as well.
