Stephen King just dropped his Halloween watchlist on Threads, stacking it with screen adaptations of his own work — and naming the highly anticipated It: Welcome to Derry a must-watch for spooky season.

Stephen King basically did your Halloween watchlist for you. Not exactly a shocker, but it is fun to see the man himself curate your queue — and yes, he slid in a plug for the new Pennywise prequel while he was at it.

King jumps on Threads with his picks

"Need some Steve King for Halloween? Gotcha covered."

"You can find other stuff, too. If you're brave enough."

On Threads, King rattled off five of his own page-to-screen projects he thinks fit the season. Solid lineup, and very on-brand.

What he recommended (and where to stream)

  • The Institute (MGM+ and Prime Video)
  • 1922 (Netflix)
  • Gerald's Game (Netflix)
  • Lisey's Story (Apple TV+)
  • It: Welcome to Derry (HBO Max)

The timely one: It: Welcome to Derry

King calling out It: Welcome to Derry is not random timing — the series is debuting on HBO Max right now. It is a prequel set in 1962 back in the cursed town of Derry, digging into how Pennywise's reign of terror started. Bill Skarsgard is back under the makeup, which, honestly, is half the sell.

Meanwhile, King is still writing (but eyeing the brakes)

In a recent USA Today chat, King said he is juggling a few things: a new installment in Never Flinch — described as the Holly Gibney detective series — and a third book following The Talisman and Black House. That Never Flinch label is an interesting wrinkle for Holly fans, but the point is: he is still building out those worlds.

He also admitted he is trying to clear his desk and be realistic about pace. His take, paraphrased: once you are past 75 or so, the warranty is up, nothing is guaranteed, and you have to be careful. Translation: still working, just not pretending time is infinite.
