Starz Removed Heels, but There's No Need to Panic Just Yet
The beloved show might actually be coming back.
It's clear that Starz has struggled to stay relevant in recent years, as most of the network's iconic shows have ended long ago, with only Outlander continuing to force viewers to pay for their subscriptions. As sad as that is, fans were absolutely sure that the wrestling drama Heels, created by Michael Waldron and starring Arrow's Stephen Amell, would become Starz's biggest new show, as the first two seasons of the project showed a lot of promise.
That's why the fandom was shocked when Starz execs announced the cancellation of Heels right after the second season ended, even though people were totally confident that a huge cliffhanger that the show ended on would be resolved in the third season.
Starz continues to ruin the show
As if cancelling the beloved show after a cliffhanger wasn't enough, Starz decided to destroy their reputation even more by deleting the entire second season from their website, making it impossible for fans to even watch the show to the end.
Fans were quick to accuse the producers of removing the second season from the Starz catalog in hopes of not paying residuals to the writers and actors, but it looks like the real reason behind this sudden removal might actually be quite positive for Heels fandom.
A new home
The moment it was announced that Heels would not be returning for season two, Amell and Waldron announced that they were looking for a new home for the show, in hopes that a major streaming service would pick it up for season three.
And given how sudden the cancellation of the series was, fans began to suspect that executives decided to remove the show from Starz's website not because of the residuals, but because they had lost the rights to it.
Yes, it feels like another network or streaming service bought the rights to the second season, and in that case, the third season of Heels is a done deal, with Waldron possibly announcing the renewal to fans in the near future.
It's still just a theory, though, and maybe Starz canceled the second season for residuals after all.
