Will Jamie survive the First Battle of Saratoga?

The Outlander Season 7 mid-season break is just around the corner. With only one episode left in the first eight-episode part of the season, fans are expecting something extraordinary to happen on screen. And of course, the chilling cliffhanger of Episode 7 has to be resolved.

So far, the new season has been tough on the Frasers. In the face of the American Revolution, Claire and Jamie must once again find ways to live and love amid the terror of war. Bree and Roger are dealing with their own kind of 20th-century hell when their child is kidnapped. But perhaps the most horrific twist came in the latest episode.

During the First Battle of Saratoga against the British Army, Jamie Fraser was apparently left for dead on the battlefield. This came as a shock to viewers who are not ready to lose the show's most beloved character.

Luckily, we have a way to answer the question that's burning the huge Outlander fandom right now. Let's take a look at the source material, Diana Gabaldon's novel series of the same name, to find out if Jamie will survive the brutal wounds he suffered in battle.

Will Jamie survive?

The short answer is yes, he will. The Battles of Saratoga are featured in the seventh book in the series, An Echo in the Bone. The author has since published two more books and is currently writing the tenth. In each of these novels, Jamie remains the main character. So breathe easy, dear fans.

What happens next for Jamie?

Actually, viewers may get another Jamie scare this season. In the books, Jamie and Claire go to Scotland after the Battles of Saratoga but are soon separated when Claire must travel to America to help Marsali's kid. As Jamie sets out to reunite with her, his ship disappears at sea, leaving Claire officially widowed.

This twist leads to the controversial storyline of Claire and Lord John's marriage. But Jamie once again beats the odds and emerges alive and well.

After a fair amount of family feuding, the chaos of war, and Claire's serious injury, the Frasers are reunited with Bree, who brings bad news from the future: Jamie is destined to die at the Battle of King's Mountain. But when the battle comes, Claire is able to use her time travel magic to save Jamie once again.

This is a short description of everything that happened in Diana Gabaldon's novels up to book nine. There's no telling which of these storylines will be picked up for the upcoming Season 8, which is set to be final. Hopefully, the beloved protagonists will find their peaceful happily-ever-after after all they've endured over the years.
