IMAX-sized twist: Spider-Man: Brand New Day may skip the giant format, leaving the wall-crawler’s next swing confined to standard screens.

IMAX just rolled out its 2026 game plan, and, at least right now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is not on the giant screens. That might sound weird for a Marvel Phase 6 movie, but the calendar explains a lot.

So where is Spider-Man?

Brand New Day opens July 31, landing right in the middle of a jam-packed IMAX window. The live-action Moana hits July 10, followed by The Odyssey on July 17. With those two already squatting in premium large formats, it tracks that Spidey isn’t currently getting IMAX play. Could that change later? Sure. But as of IMAX’s latest investor presentation, it’s not on the list.

On the casting side, Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, joined by Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, plus Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Sadie Sink is in there too in a mystery role, and fans think they’ve already cracked who she’s playing — Marvel being Marvel, they’re keeping that under wraps.

What IMAX does have on deck for 2026

Here’s what IMAX says is in the pipeline next year (and yes, it’s a lot):

  • Mercy
  • The Bride
  • Project Hail Mary
  • The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
  • Michael
  • Mortal Kombat 2
  • The Mandalorian and Grogu
  • Toy Story 5
  • Supergirl
  • Minions 3
  • Moana (live-action)
  • The Odyssey
  • Flowervale Street
  • Resident Evil
  • Untitled Inarritu/Tom Cruise
  • Street Fighter
  • The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
  • Narnia
  • Avengers: Doomsday
  • Dune: Part 3

Also worth flagging: Avatar: Fire and Ash will still be in IMAX rotation into 2026, because of course it will.

December is going to be messy

One spicy bit: both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part 3 are dated for December 18 — and both are slotted for IMAX. Two mega-franchises wanting the same premium screens on the same day is... ambitious. If nobody moves, expect a tighter split on IMAX showtimes than either studio would prefer.

Bottom line: for now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks like it’s sitting out IMAX, squeezed between Moana and The Odyssey. Meanwhile, late 2026 could turn into a heavyweight tug-of-war between Marvel and Dune over those big screens. Grab your popcorn and your calendar — it’s going to be a crowded year.
