Spider-Man 4 Director Teases The MCU's Most Relatable Movie Yet
Spider-Man 4 swings into U.S. theaters this July, and director Destin Daniel Cretton is teasing an incredibly relatable Spider-Man: Brand New Day from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
Spider-Man 4 is locking in for summer and the director just offered a small, telling peek at what kind of Peter Parker story we’re getting. Short version: expect a grounded, transitional chapter. Long version, keep reading.
The vibe Cretton is aiming for
Destin Daniel Cretton, stepping in after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, describes this next film as zeroing in on where Peter is emotionally right now. He kept specifics quiet, but he did share two choice hints:
"The movie does kind of pick up where the previous movie left off emotionally."
"We are exploring a time in Peter Parker's life that I find incredibly relatable, where he is learning to step into a new phase in life."
That lines up with the title floating around for this one: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. A fresh start for Peter usually means new headaches, tougher choices, and a lot of character work between the web-slinging.
Who’s in it
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are co-producing, with Tom Holland back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and a familiar roster circling him. Official plot details stay sealed for now, but the cast list is already stacked:
- Zendaya as Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson
- Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds
- Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher
- Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
- Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion
- Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone
- Plus: Sadie Sink, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman in undisclosed roles (plenty of online guessing, zero confirmations)
Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, opens in US theaters on July 31, 2026.
