Yes, it’s actually happening: Spaceballs 2 just flipped the switch to "in production." Amazon MGM Studios kicked things off with a first-look photo from the table read, confirming the sequel is moving forward after being officially announced a little over a year ago. It’s the follow-up to Mel Brooks’s 1987 parody classic, with Josh Greenbaum directing from a script by Josh Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez.
What’s new, what’s back
- Returning cast: Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet, Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, and Mel Brooks pulling double duty again as Yogurt and President Skroob.

- Newly confirmed return: George Wyner is back as Colonel Sandurz.

Quick Carrigan refresher if the name isn’t ringing a bell: he’s the scene-stealer behind NoHo Hank on HBO’s Barry, and he recently suited up as Rex Mason/Metamorpho in James Gunn’s Superman. On TV, you’ve also seen him in The Forgotten, Parenthood, The Flash, Gotham, and Twisted Metal. Film-wise, he’s popped up in The Satanic (2016), Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020), and the upcoming Death of a Unicorn (2025), among others.
The secret sauce (still secret)
Plot details are locked down for now. Amazon MGM Studios did share that table-read photo, which is basically Hollywood’s way of saying: yes, this is real; yes, people are in a room for it.
