And things are expected to go even darker.

It would appear that 2023 is not shaping up to be a great year for love. It has been riddled with celebrity divorces, with numerous famous couples parting ways almost daily. For instance, just this week, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez filed for divorce, as did Hugh Jackman and his wife of twenty-seven years, Deborra Lee-Furness. Before them, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were the talk of the town after announcing their divorce via Instagram.

The star of HBO's hit series Game of Thrones and the heartthrob singer began dating in 2016. Their relationship progressed rapidly, leading to their engagement a year later. The couple eloped and tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2019. Soon after, they welcomed two daughters. However, Jonas and Turner's marriage ended abruptly early this September when they announced their divorce on Instagram, promising to handle it with the utmost respect for each other. The situation seems to have gone downhill since then.

Children Get Involved

What was initially seen as a mostly amicable split, despite rumors of Jonas conducting a smear campaign against his estranged wife, has turned ugly. Sophie Turner has recently filed a lawsuit against Joe, alleging that he is preventing their daughters from returning home to England, where the couple has resided since April of this year.

According to reports, Turner's lawsuit contends that the couple decided to make the UK their permanent home before their divorce proceedings. They even began searching for schools for their eldest daughter, who is only three years old. However, the GoT actress claims that the girls' father, who has been taking them on tour with his band, refuses to bring them back to her.

'The Father has possession of the children's passports,' Page Six quotes the document as saying. 'He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.'

More Mess Ahead

It would appear that Jonas and Turner's divorce is about to get more complicated. Sophie intends to file a similar lawsuit in the UK, where it will be viewed as a significant violation of her custody rights. If that happens, all the amicability will go out of the window.
