It turns out that the last SNL episode wasn't as awkward as it may have seemed.

Summary

  • Jennifer Lopez and Ayo Edebiri didn't really have a beef despite the latter's hateful comments.
  • The two appeared on the latest episode of SNL, where Edebiri admitted to being wrong about J Lo.
  • The singer said that Ayo Edebiri came to her before the show to apologize.

Just like regular people, celebrities get into feuds with each other from time to time. Sometimes these high-profile squabbles last for decades. For example, Sex and the City stars Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker had a major falling out in the middle of the show's run in the 2000s and have never reconciled. So much so that the former refused to film a single scene with the latter in the finale of And Just Like That... Season 2. But there are also smaller celebrity feuds.

Recent Emmy winner and The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri and Jennifer Lopez, who just released her new album, didn't really know each other before they appeared together on SNL earlier this month. However, there was thought to be some tension between the two artists due to the nasty comments Edebiri made about Lopez's work on a podcast in 2020.

Because of this, it was awkward to see the two women appear side by side on the fan-favorite sketch show. But apparently, it wasn't as intense as it seemed on set, as SNL actually helped Ayo make amends with Lopez.

The Infamous Apology Sketch

On the February 3 episode of SNL, Ayo Edebiri appeared in a sketch where she played a contestant on a game show called Why'd You Say It? In the sketch, the contestants had to face the mean comments they'd written online and explain why they did it. In the end, Ayo's character broke down and apologized for being mean, saying:

'It's wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don't consider the impact because you're twenty-four and stupid,' which many people took as a nod to her previous hate comments about Jennifer Lopez.

And as much as this public apology was needed, the actress had already told Lopez about her remorse in person.

Ayo Edebiri Apologized to J Lo Before the Show

'She was mortified and very sweet. She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform. She was just like, "I'm so [effing] sorry, it was so awful of me,"' Jennifer Lopez shared in a recent interview.

Remarkably, the singer didn't even hold a grudge against Edebiri. Lopez had faced criticism before, so Ayo's rant about her didn't really mean anything.

'It's funny. I've heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn't affect me,' J lo added.

The next episode of SNL will air live on February 24th.
