Slow Horses is back to ruin more days at MI5, and yes, Apple is dropping a two-episode premiere. If you needed a fall TV anchor that smells faintly of cigarette smoke and bad coffee, here it is.

When Episodes 1 and 2 drop

Apple is rolling out the Season 5 opener as a double bill in the U.S. on Tuesday night, with the rest of the world catching it a bit later thanks to time zones.

  • U.S. release time: 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET
  • Everywhere else: Wednesday, September 24 (local time)

What Season 5 is poking at

This round opens with Roddy Ho getting a new girlfriend, which, if you know Roddy, sets off alarms louder than any car siren in London. Soon after, odd things start happening across the city. The Slow Horses get yanked into figuring out what connects the weirdness, while Jackson Lamb and River Cartwright end up facing a fresh mess that puts their double act to the test.

The returning crew

Gary Oldman is back as the endlessly irritable Jackson Lamb, with Jack Lowden as River Cartwright. Kristin Scott Thomas returns, Rosalind Eleazar is in the mix, and the rest of Slough House’s walking HR warnings are along for the ride.

Quick refresher on the show

Slow Horses follows the MI5 misfits banished to Slough House and their delightfully toxic boss, Jackson Lamb, as they wade through the espionage swamp to stop threats to the U.K. The team may be sidelined, but they routinely end up being the ones who actually get things done—barely, chaotically, and usually with a hangover.
