Slow Horses Gets Renewed, Jumps to Book 8 in Season 7

Apple TV+ just renewed Slow Horses for a seventh season, and in true MI5 fashion, it's skipping ahead to adapt Bad Actors, the eighth book in Mick Herron's acclaimed spy series.
Why bother going in order when your entire show is about a department full of bureaucratic washouts who never follow the rules?
Slow Horses stars Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, a burnt-out, flatulent espionage legend running a team of failed British spies dumped in a no-hope division called Slough House. Somehow, this show about losers has become Apple TV+'s biggest critical success — and now, its longest-running series.
Let's get the facts straight before the obligatory gushing begins:
- Season 7 will adapt Bad Actors, where the team hunts a mole inside the British government.
- Kristin Scott Thomas returns as Diana Taverner, this time framed while a Russian spymaster conveniently sneaks into London.
- Gary Oldman returns as Jackson Lamb, presumably chain-smoking through the chaos.
- Season 5 premieres September 24, 2025.
- Seasons 1–4 are already streaming, and Season 6 is in the works.
And yes, Apple's press release practically self-combusted from the strain of calling this "the best spy series on television" — but honestly, they might not be wrong. Every season has been Certified Fresh, with two scoring a perfect 100%, and Season 4 was Rotten Tomatoes' #1 series of 2024. The show's third season racked up nine Emmy nominations and even won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Creative director Jay Hunt described it as "a unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action," adding:
"I'm delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary's magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb."
In other words: more moles, more snark, more bureaucratic dysfunction.
Season 7 will be adapted by Ben Vanstone and directed by Robert McKillop, with the usual producer suspects back on board — including Oldman himself. And while they skipped a book to get here, honestly, so would Jackson Lamb. It's not like he reads memos anyway.
