Unfortunately, we'll have to wait quite a while to find out Juliette's fate.

Based on the Wool book series by Hugh Howey, Silo has become one of the top sci-fi shows of the year on Apple TV+, second only to the critically acclaimed Severance. The series' first season, which ran from May to June, turned out to be a television phenomenon, coming out of nowhere to wow audiences with a compelling post-apocalyptic story full of philosophical musings, thoughtful world-building, and excellent acting.

Unfortunately, 2023 has been marked by a string of disappointments for both the general public and industry professionals. For nearly three months, US writers have been on strike, joined recently by members of SAG-AFTRA, due to an unresolved dispute with production companies.

The writers' and actors' strikes have brought the entire film and TV industry to a standstill. As a result, many popular shows and highly anticipated productions have been put on hold, and it looks like the second season of Silo may be another casualty.

Led by Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, the show tells the story of the inhabitants of a bunker known as silo. The survivors of an apocalyptic event have built a seemingly healthy society in the bunker, but they're actually controlled by ruthless authoritarian forces who do their best to make sure none of the silo inhabitants know what's going on outside the asylum.

Silo immediately became one of the favorites among viewers, partially due to the lack of releases after the WGA strike broke out. The decent ratings convinced Apple that Silo should be renewed, and a second season was announced in June, coinciding with the release of the final episodes.

'Apple has believed in our vision from day one, and it's an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the Silo,' showrunner Hugh Howey shared his excitement at the time.

Season 2 began filming in the UK at the end of June, so it's safe to assume that the script for it was largely finished (although the writers may still need to be present during production for any rewrites). However, with SAG-affiliated actors joining the strike, Deadline reporters have learned that the show has been put on indefinite hiatus.

So if Silo Season 2 was supposed to come out in 2024, it looks like we're going to have to wait another year to see the beloved characters again. The writers and actors will probably not stop picketing in the coming months, as neither the WGA nor the SAG have yet reached a satisfactory contract with the producers represented by the AMPTP.
