Should've Stuck to Music: 7 Worst Idol Acting Debuts
The singers are not always good at acting.
Although K–pop idols are adored by millions of people around the world, they are largely loved for their music, not their acting. However, many idols have become quite successful as the stars of series and movies, delighting their fans with their talent in front of the camera and behind the microphone. However, not all idols have been so lucky.
Here are the 7 worst idol acting debuts:
L (Infinite) – Flower Band, 2012
The popular K–pop idol decided to try his luck at acting with a series focusing on a teenage rock group, but his performance as the group's mean guitarist was truly laughable, as the singer failed to sell the idea of his character's importance, looking like a good guy trying to act tough.
Naeun (Apink) – The Great Seer, 2012-2013
While Naeun's role in a popular historical drama was rather small, as she played the young version of one of the main characters, singer's lack of acting skills was quite noticeable, leading some fans to wonder why she was cast in the show at all.
Joy (Red Velvet) – The Liar and His Lover, 2017
Considering how popular Joy and Red Velvet were, it was only a matter of time before the singer appeared on a television screen, but landing a lead role in a serious project wasn't something fans expected. Joy's lack of professionalism was evident throughout the show, all thanks to being surrounded by veteran actors who made her look like a glorified extra.
Yunho (TVXQ) – Heading to the Ground, 2009
Even though fans love Yunho, they are all sure that acting is not something that the singer should pursue, and this soccer–oriented show is the reason why, as the singer's lead performance basically ruined the whole project with its stiffness.
Jang Su-won (Sechs Kies) – Love and War, 2013
Being a good singer does not necessarily mean being a good actor, and Jang's appearance on the popular drama Love and War is the most infamous example of this, as the singer's brief stint on the show earned him the nickname "Robot Actor" because his face did not move at all in front of the camera. Yikes.
Cha Eun-woo (Astro) – True Beauty, 2020-2021
When Cha got one of the lead roles in a big romantic drama, fans were quite scared because singer's acting problems have been known to the fandom for years. And although Cha's acting got better with every episode, he was still miles behind all the other actors on the show.
Jennie (BlackPink) – The Idol, 2023
The news of Jennie getting a part in HBO's The Idol took the world by storm, as seeing a Korean idol with The Weeknd and Lily–Rose Depp was something her fans never dreamed of. Unfortunately, both the show and Jennie's performance proved to be a massive disappointment, ruining Jennie's budding acting career.
