Moore returns to one of his most famous roles, but fans are still upset.

Shemar Moore, best known for his portrayal of Derek Morgan on CBS's Criminal Minds, has managed to carve out a pretty impressive career path for himself, as he currently stars in his own procedural show, S.W.A.T., which has been getting pretty good ratings since its premiere in 2017.

Although Moore left Criminal Minds a while ago and didn't return for the recent Paramount+ revival, fans of the cult crime series are still desperate to see him back. However, Moore has something else on his mind.

Recently, the actor announced that he is ready to return to the show that made him famous… but it's not Criminal Minds. From 1994 to 2005, Moore played Malcolm Winters in the hit soap opera The Young and the Restless, winning a Daytime Emmy award for his performance.

Against all odds, Moore is returning for a brief stint on the soap, instead of delighting fans with an appearance on the much more prestigious Criminal Minds — and here's why.

In fact, The Young and the Restless is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, so Moore's decision to return to the show is clearly connected to that. Perhaps the soap's producers agreed to pay him much more than he expected, so Moore decided to betray his status as a primetime network actor just to make a pretty penny.

Fans of Criminal Minds are obviously furious, wondering why Moore is leaving them in favor of an old soap opera.

Since its revival on Paramount+, Criminal Minds is doing better than ever, with both critics and viewers agreeing that the new format is much more beneficial to the show's overall storyline.

Maybe Shemar Moore is just tired of playing the tough guy on primetime TV and wants to goof around on the soap that made him famous instead of returning to the character he never really cared about.

In any case, it's unlikely that Moore will ever return to Criminal Minds, even though fans really want him to.
