Nintendo will blast off this week with the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, as a special presentation locks in the debut and promises fans their first real look at the Illumination sequel.

Nintendo is about to park an entire Nintendo Direct on one thing: the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. No game updates, no surprise announcements, just Mario-in-space getting a proper reveal. Honestly, fair enough.

The trailer premieres Wednesday, Nov 12, at 6 am PT / 9 am ET during a special Direct the company announced through the Nintendo Today! app and its official X account. They even shared a moody two-panel poster: the title and the Nintendo/Illumination logos floating in a starry sky, while a bunch of Toads sail tiny boats under the night with spaceships hovering overhead. Not subtle about the vibe they are going for.

'Join us on Wednesday, Nov 12, at 6am PT for the Nintendo Direct featuring the world premiere of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie official trailer. Please note that no game information will be included in this presentation.'

What you should know going in

  • When to watch: Wednesday, Nov 12 at 6 am PT / 9 am ET via a dedicated Nintendo Direct.
  • What to expect: Just the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Nintendo is explicitly saying no game news.
  • Why this matters: It is the first real look at the 2026 follow-up to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The 'Super Mario Galaxy' title itself was first confirmed during a Direct back in Sept 2025.
  • Who is making it: Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back, with Matthew Fogel returning to write the script.
  • Who is in it: Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) are all returning.
  • Release dates: Universal Pictures is rolling it out in theaters on April 3, 2026 in the U.S., and April 24, 2026 in Japan.
  • Animation: Illumination Studios Paris is leading the animation again, continuing its partnership with Nintendo after the 2023 hit.

So yes, Nintendo is giving a trailer its own stage. It is a little extra, but considering how big the last movie was, it tracks. We will see on Wednesday if Mario in deep space looks as good as that poster suggests.
