Carrie Bradshaw’s story may not be over. Sarah Jessica Parker says the door is open for a return to the Sex and the City universe, even with the sequel series ended—hinting the iconic columnist could slip back into her Manolos.

So, despite the big farewell, Carrie Bradshaw might not be done after all. Sarah Jessica Parker just cracked the door open a bit on the future of Sex and the City, and it sounds less like a hard stop and more like a pause button.

Is Carrie actually gone?

On CBS Mornings, Parker said she is not convinced Carries story has wrapped for good. The way she put it, the character could simply be taking a breather, even though showrunner Michael Patrick King has decided to end the sequel series after three seasons.

"I could just be on hiatus."

Parker framed Kings decision as a thoughtful one: when a show is in a healthy place, sometimes the elegant move is to step away instead of grinding it down and testing everyones patience. She also talked about the finale in that context, doubling down that an ending on TV does not always mean forever. And yes, she gave fans a heartfelt thank-you, basically saying her gratitude is lifelong.

How the ending actually went down

King told the cast back in July that And Just Like That... was over before he made it public, which is a little inside baseball you do not always hear about. When he announced it later, he explained that while writing the Season 3 finale, he realized it was a strong natural endpoint for the Sex and the City universe. Of course, natural endpoints in TV land have a funny way of becoming launching pads, which is why Parkers hesitation to call it final feels notable.

Quick refresher

  • Original series: Sex and the City ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004, with Parker as columnist Carrie Bradshaw, followed by two feature films.
  • Sequel series: And Just Like That... premiered in 2021 and ran for three seasons before King chose to conclude it.
  • Behind the scenes: The cast got the heads-up in July; the public announcement came after.
  • Where Parker stands now: She is open to returning as Carrie if the stars align, despite the series ending.

Meanwhile, SJP is busy with books

Parker also used the interview to spotlight her SJP Lit imprint. She is currently championing Victoria Redels novel I Am You, set in 1600s Amsterdam and centered on artists Maria van Oosterwijck and Gerta Pieters. Parker likes that these were real women with scant historical records and praised Redel for turning the facts into a vivid, unexpected story that blends atmosphere, drama, and a lot of texture.

Bottom line: And Just Like That... is done, but Parker is not sealing Carries closet door shut. If a new story shows up that feels right, do not be shocked if those Manolos walk again.
