The new installment fails to meet fan expectations.

There aren't many shows on American television that have run as long as American Horror Story. Since its premiere in 2011, this cult FX anthology series has quickly amassed a large following and established itself as a prestigious project to be associated with. As a result, stars such as Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Matt Bomer, and Lady Gaga have appeared on the show during its twelve-season run.

American Horror Story has recently returned with a twelfth season titled Delicate. The season deals with the horrors women face during pregnancy, and so far, only three episodes have been released. Unfortunately, viewers seem less than impressed with the new story.

Slow-Paced and Uneventful

One of the main advantages of American Horror Story's anthology format is its ability to present different stories that keep viewers engaged until the end. Each season of the FX show has captivated us with intriguing narratives. However, Delicate appears to lack the elements needed to get viewers hooked.

In other words, the twelfth season of AHS is too drawn-out to be enjoyed. Nothing significant happens in the three episodes that have aired so far. The third episode, in particular, is characterized by an almost complete lack of action and plot developments apart from Anna's mental struggles.

Unsubstantiated

Understandably, many viewers find this off-putting as the show seems to be a collection of the main character's dreams and hallucinations rather than an exciting horror story about an evil cult. People have begun to doubt whether the current season can tell a cohesive story.

Season 12 of American Horror Story is based on Danielle Valentine's novel Delicate Condition, a brilliant piece of writing that tackles many issues. However, it would appear that this small-screen adaptation is floundering.

Three episodes in, the characters of AHS Season 12 remain undeveloped, and the story largely unexplored. To add insult to injury, AHS fans are sorely disappointed as they were expecting an exciting season after the show's long period of stagnation, only to get another subpar installment. We can only hope that the remaining episodes somehow manage to salvage the season as, at the moment, it seems to be headed towards unmitigated disaster.

Episode 4 of AHS: Delicate is scheduled to be released on October 11th.
