Season 10 Turned Elizabeth Into the Worst When Calls The Heart Character
The melodrama may have just made a huge mistake.
While best known for its holiday-themed movies, Hallmark hosts one of the most popular melodramas currently on air - When Calls the Heart. The series narrates the tale of Elizabeth, a high-society woman who has to move to the Canadian frontier and become a schoolteacher.
Elizabeth's story has kept evolving and getting more profound with each new season, though it cannot be denied that the show has started to feel somewhat stagnant in the past few seasons.
Fans are notably disappointed with the way the writers have been treating Elizabeth of late, seeing how her character has seemingly devolved from a wholesome woman into a petulant, spoiled brat. This transformation is particularly evident in the ongoing Season 10, with more and more fans bashing the character's increasingly irritating antics.
Forced Drama
Considering that When Calls the Heart is generally a light-hearted and feel-good show, it's only natural for the writers to attempt to infuse some drama into the storyline to keep the viewers engaged and entertained.
In the recently released Episode 10, a sudden rift emerged between Elizabeth and her lover, Lucas, as she abruptly became very judgmental and demanding. The issue arose when Elizabeth took offense as Lucas was besieged by a group of reporters and had to back off a bit. She likely interpreted Lucas' retreat as showing a lack of masculinity, which is an incredibly misguided notion, given that he was just responding on instinct, without much thought.
Fans Hate Elizabeth
Viewers were taken aback when the writers sided with Elizabeth in this showdown. She acted like a spoiled child, and the way she chose to get triggered by Lucas's completely innocuous reaction was plain ridiculous.
Once again, fans were reminded of the declining quality of the show's writing in recent years. The whole story seemed like a rather clumsy and contrived attempt to drive a wedge between Elizabeth and Lucas. The writers could have at least tried to come up with a semi-plausible rationale for their falling out instead of turning Elizabeth into a high-school drama queen and possibly the worst character on the show.
