Netflix just unmasked the main cast for its live-action Scooby-Doo, and fans are split in familiar fashion: big applause for the lineup, and a chorus of questions about the one key piece still missing.

Netflix finally pulled the sheet off its live-action Scooby-Doo series, and the internet immediately settled on two reactions: nice casting, and hey, where is the dog?

Meet Mystery Inc. (well, most of them)

  • Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake
  • Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers
  • Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley
  • Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones

Credit where due: the four leads actually look like their animated counterparts, which fans noticed right away. The praise rolled in with a familiar tone of pleasant surprise:

"Oh my god. The surprise that they actually did casting matching the actual source material cartoon. now hoping for a show that's honest to its much beloved cartoon show with similar relationship dynamics."

Another common strain was straight-up shock that the lineup works on sight. As one person put it:

"No way... you guys actually brought the characters to life .. i'm shocked."

About that missing Great Dane

Netflix announced the core four and stopped there, which made the missing piece impossible to ignore. There is still no word on who is voicing (or otherwise bringing to life) Scooby-Doo. The most-shared sentiment was basically this:

"Where's the dog? Who plays the dog!!?!!??"

Short version: fans like the human casting; they want to know who is Scooby. Fair ask.

What the show covers

The series tracks the early days of Mystery Incorporated, digging into how the gang first clicks. The story kicks off with Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where a new mystery pulls them in and sets everything in motion. Production is moving ahead, and more details are coming.

Solid start. Now cast the dog.
