Scary Movie Creeps in Early: Release Date Moved Up
Hot on the heels of its first trailer, Marlon Wayans announces Scary Movie will land sooner than expected. The horror spoof’s release date has been bumped up.
Scary Movie is actually coming back this summer, and it is now landing a week earlier than planned. After the first trailer dropped, Marlon Wayans jumped on Instagram and moved the date up. I love a schedule change that favors audiences for once.
New date, new face-off
The spoof sequel shifts from June 12 to June 5. Wayans says they are in the edit right now and bumped it up after the response to the trailer. He pitched it as a laugh-heavy summer kickoff and even joked about 'coming early.' The new date puts it head-to-head with Masters of the Universe, which is a wild double bill tonally.
'June 5th is the new date for Scary Movie!'
The setup
This one takes place 26 years after our original quartet outran a certain very recognizable horror mask. The Core Four are back in the crosshairs: Shorty (Marlon Wayans), Ray (Shawn Wayans), Cindy (Anna Faris), and Brenda (Regina Hall). The movie arms itself to poke at the entire horror buffet: reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spinoffs, elevated horror, origin stories, titles chasing 'legacy' vibes, and those never-actually-final chapters. Every sacred cow is on the chopping block, and the Wayans are clearly planning to swing at cancel culture along with everything else.
Who is in it
Marlon Wayans is starring, co-writing, and producing. He is joined by returning favorites and fresh additions:
- Shawn Wayans
- Anna Faris
- Regina Hall
- Damon Wayans Jr.
- Gregg Wayans
- Kim Wayans
- Benny Zielke

The vibe
Wayans says the sequel is going back to the franchise’s early, no-holds-barred energy. He framed the approach as aiming for big laughs and making light of everyone equally, not harm.
'We just want to make everybody laugh, and we dont care if youre sensitive.'
'You may offend people here and there, but, hey, not every jokes gonna land 100 percent, but if you tell a joke and 100 people laugh and one person walks out, thats still a good joke.'
Short version: the Wayans clan is back, summer is circled, and Scary Movie now arrives June 5. Plan accordingly.
