Scary Movie 6 is pulling the gang back together, but not everyone got an invite. One very notable absence: Shannon Elizabeth. Marlon Wayans explained why, and Elizabeth shared her side too.
The setup
The new movie lands June 5, 2026. The hook is clean and very first-movie: the masked killer from Scary Movie resurfaces, which drags Cindy Campbell (yes, Anna Faris is back) and her friends into one more round of chaos. Several familiar faces from the original run are returning. Buffy Gilmore, however, is not.
Why Shannon Elizabeth isn’t in it
Wayans said the choice not to include her wasn’t about any bad blood. It came down to headcount.
"Love Shannon, definitely wasn’t personal. But it was toooooo many people coming back."
He also made it clear the door isn’t closed forever. The franchise, in his words and attitude, isn’t going anywhere.
Elizabeth wanted in
Elizabeth, 52, said she would have happily suited up as Buffy again if asked.
"Oh yeah, absolutely."
She didn’t get the call, so she’ll be watching as a fan this time around, adding:
"I think watching everyone together again will be really special."
The Buffy of it all
Elizabeth looked back at why she took Buffy in the first place: the character’s goofy energy, the weird little lines, the physical comedy. It wasn’t like anything else she was reading at the time. And the pageant sequence from the first movie? Still lives rent-free in fans’ heads. At signings, people quote it line-for-line to her, which genuinely hits her right in the feelings. You don’t always realize, in the moment, what’s going to stick.
