SATC Cast Salary is a Far Cry From Sarah Jessica Parker's $3.2 Mil Paycheck
There was a yawning gap in the actresses' earnings.
It's been almost two decades since the HBO hit show Sex and the City aired its last episode. The story of four female friends "adulting" in the Big Apple fast became a smash hit with audiences all over the world.
And even today, all these years later, SATC remains one of the most re-watched shows in TV history.
In total, the franchise comprises six seasons of the original show, two movies and a recently launched new sequel. The original show featured an ensemble cast of brilliant actresses: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon portrayed Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes, respectively, each a uniquely different character. However, even though they were all main characters, it was Sarah Jessica Parker who got the heftiest paychecks.
When the show was launched, Sarah Jessica Parker was, perhaps, the most famous cast member, so accordingly, she was offered more money from the get-go. She got paid a cool $50 million for the first season. During the show's last three seasons, Parker was making $3.2 million per episode. It should be noted that she also acted as the show's executive producer during that period, so her increased pay would have reflected that, too.
In comparison, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon were being paid $350k per episode at the height of SATC's success. Their remuneration for the movies also differed from Sarah Jessica Parker's. Cartal was paid $7 million for the first film and $10 million for the second; Davies and Nixon each got $3 million and $4, while Parker got paid $13 million and $20 million.
This huge disparity in pay was the reason behind Kim Cattrall and Sara Jessica Parker's feud. Kim even turned down offers to appear in a third Sex and the City movie and the sequel series, so Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprised their iconic roles in the new sequel without her and are now making $1 million per episode each, seeing how they're all executive producers on the show.
Still, the pay gap between SJP and the rest of the cast on Sex and the City will probably never be forgotten.
