Sarah Jessica Parker's SATC Salary Puts And Just Like That $1M Paycheck to Shame
Times have changed, and so has Sarah Jessica's salary.
With each new season of a show or movie in a franchise, actors who star in them usually get paid more.
It certainly is a once-in-a-blue-moon occasion when an actor's paycheck for a subsequent project is decreased — but apparently, this is what happened to the Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker.
Playing the one and only Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica has appeared in every season of the original Sex and the City series and every spin-off project of the cult show. Premiering on HBO in 1998, SATC featured Carrie as well as three other main characters — Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte — as the women went about their daily lives in New York. The show was a big success and spanned six seasons, with the seventh one never coming to fruition.
However, two movies were subsequently released, titled Sex and the City: The Movie (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010). Sarah Jessica starred in both, and these projects were quite lucrative for her too, allowing the star to improve her fortune even further (we'll cite the numbers below).
In the early 2020s, the SATC actors (excluding Samantha's Kim Cattrall) gathered once again to take part in HBO's sequel series, And Just Like That… Surprisingly, the new show saw Parker's paycheck diminished considerably — in fact, her salary on the project is nothing compared to what the actress used to earn before!
Celebrity Net Worth reports that, during the last three seasons of SATC, Sarah Jessica Parker was making $3.2 million per episode. If you do the math, you'll see that those 46 episodes enriched the actress by around $147 million. This number is obviously staggering, but it's fair to mention that Parker was also an executive producer on the show at that time, and her earnings obviously reflect that.
The star also co-produced the two SATC feature films, and they brought her $15 and $20 million respectively.
As for the SATC sequel show — And Just Like That… — Sarah Jessica received a modest $1-million per-episode salary for Season 1 even though she was an EP on the project along with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.
Clearly, that's a huge decline in her paychecks, but it's likely that the actress has gotten a raise for reprising her role in Season 2. The next season of And Just Like That… is set to be released in June 2023.
