Sarah Jessica Parker Breaks Silence on Kim Cattrall's And Just Like That Cameo
Is the SATC star just being polite about Cattrall's return?
When And Just Like That… premiered in 2020, most people weren't surprised to see only three of the four main cast members reprise their roles in the Sex and the City spin-off. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon returned to their roles as Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda, but Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones was missing in the new series.
Kim Cattrall, who used to portray the libidinous PR manager Samantha in the original series, refused to play the character in the mid-2010s when a third SATC movie was on the table. However, it looks like the actress has had a change of heart, as she is confirmed to play Samantha once again in Season 2 of And Just Like That…
Fans of HBO's hit series are generally positive about the news, but other SATC stars have mostly kept silent about Kim Cattrall's return to the franchise. However, Sarah Jessica Parker recently revealed how excited she feels about working with actors who were once involved in the project and are now back to be part of the spin-off — and she was clearly referring to Cattrall in the interview.
'We've been really thoughtful about the ways in which we've, you know, approached characters that hadn't been around, the ways we have invited actors back and it's been, you know, really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic, but I think more than that, it's been a lot of joy,' Parker told Daily Mail.
The actress' words are especially noteworthy because Parker and Cattrall are known to have feuded since their time together filming SATC. Reportedly, the two actresses were never friends, and Cattrall was always critical about her co-star's creative control over the project, as well as her considerable financial advantage compared to the other SATC cast members.
While Parker's comment doesn't necessarily mean her relationship with Cattrall has improved, fans are still excited to see Samantha back on the show. It's been reported earlier that Kim will only be featured in one scene, having a chat with Carrie online, and the actress actually filmed that talk all by herself — without the crew or any other cast members around. So sadly, it doesn't look like Samantha will be a big part of And Just Like That… Season 2.
The new season is scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2023.
