Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopic just landed another headliner: Saoirse Ronan, set for a pivotal role alongside Harris Dickinson’s John Lennon, Paul Mescal’s Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan’s Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn’s George Harrison.

Sam Mendes just added another heavy hitter to his Beatles mega-project, and it is a good one: Saoirse Ronan is in. If you were hoping this would be one movie you can knock out in a weekend, sorry. Mendes is making four separate films, one for each Beatle, and plans to drop them all in theaters in April 2028. Bold is an understatement.

Who Ronan is playing

Ronan will play Linda McCartney, Paul McCartney's first wife. Born Linda Louise Eastman, she was a photographer, musician, and a major voice for animal rights. She made history in the 1960s as the first woman to land a Rolling Stone cover photo. Expect Ronan to be a big presence in the Paul-focused film.

The plan for these movies

The umbrella title is 'The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event.' Each film zeroes in on one band member's story, all directed by Mendes. The scripts come from Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne. Sony Pictures is partnering with Mendes' Neal Street Productions on the rollout. Producers are Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Neal Street's Julie Pastor, with Alexandra Derbyshire also producing. Apple Corps is involved on the Beatles side of things.

'Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.'

Who is playing who

  • Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney
  • Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
  • Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
  • Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
  • Joseph Quinn as George Harrison

Yes, that is a extremely stacked cast. And yes, releasing four interlinked theatrical biopics in the same month is a wild strategy. But if anyone is going to try it, it is Mendes with this crew.

Ronan's recent and next moves

Ronan is a four-time Oscar nominee you probably know from 'Lady Bird,' 'Brooklyn,' 'Atonement,' 'The Grand Budapest Hotel,' 'Little Women,' 'Mary Queen of Scots,' 'Hanna,' 'The Lovely Bones,' 'See How They Run,' 'Foe,' 'The Seagull,' 'How I Live Now,' 'Violet & Daisy,' and 'The Outrun.' Next up for her is 'Bad Apples,' a comedy thriller from director Jonatan Etzler.
