Outlander never fails to delight fans, but Jamie's aging doesn't look convincing.

The seventh season of Outlander continues to deliver the dramatic love story of Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser and 20th-century time traveler Claire Randall. In the new season, Jamie and Young Ian try to free Claire from the prison, but their attempts are complicated by the outbreak of the American Revolution.

However, fans of both Diana Gabaldon's book series and Starz's adaptation have one complaint about the show, which has to do with the way the characters' ages were shown in recent seasons. Most notably, this applies to actor Sam Heughan and his version of Jamie.

Sam Heughan is now 43, and he looked absolutely great portraying 20-something Jamie in the first two seasons of the show, which came out in 2014 and 2016, respectively. But given that the character lives in the harsh 18th-century environment, fans suspect that Jamie must have aged more noticeably than the actor who plays him.

'The 18th century and all his wounds would've taken a toll on Jamie, and even in the books, he says he's an old man when he hits 50. It's just a younger man with excellent health from the 21st century is playing his character and it's not convincing,' a fan pointed out on Reddit.

The fifth book in Diana Gabaldon's series, The Fiery Cross, indicates that before the Battle of Alamance, which took place on May 16, 1771, Jamie turned 50 on May 1, which means he was born in 1721. Season 7 is based on the final chapters of the sixth novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and the seventh book, An Echo in the Bone. Most of this season's events take place in 1776, making Jamie 55 in the current timeline.

Aside from the fact that Heughan is just too young to play a 55-year-old character, fans accuse the series' creators of not paying enough attention to props and makeup, which might have made the actor look more believable. Back in Season 3, when Jamie and Claire met in 1765, their makeup and accessories were more appropriate, making the actors look older than they were.

'Should make him wear the glasses more. Honestly makes him look a fair bit older haha,' another Redditor noted.

Still, some people rightly point out that Jamie has ginger hair, which normally doesn't gray but fades with age, becoming closer to a strawberry blonde. That's the color of Heughan's wig in Season 7, so at least this part of his on-screen appearance is fitting for the character.

Of course, even though Sam Heughan may not be old enough to play Jamie, no one can deny that he has been doing an incredible job on Outlander over the past decade. Fans are eager to see more of Jamie and Claire's adventures on June 30, when Episode 3 arrives on Starz.
