Landman returns to Paramount+ on November 16 for Season 2 — and Sam Elliot is already eyeing a third, even as showrunner Taylor Sheridan confirms his exit.

Paramount+ is rolling out Landman Season 2 on November 16, and one of its new stars is already eyeing Season 3. Yep, Sam Elliott says he is mentally past the new episodes and thinking about what comes next. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan — the guy who built half of Paramount's current TV identity — has a new long-term deal at Universal lined up. So, is there a future for Landman past Season 2, and if so, who is steering it? Here is the lay of the land.

Sam Elliott is already talking about Season 3

In a new chat with Variety, Elliott was asked if anyone has even started talking about a third season yet. The man did not hesitate:

"I’m looking past Season 2 already. We’re here talking about Season 2, but it’s all been done. I’m thinking about what’s to come, and I’m excited about what’s to come. The audience is excited about what’s to come right now. I’m excited about what’s to come next season that we haven’t even done yet."

Translation: there is no official Season 3 order, but Elliott is already revved up for it. That kind of confidence usually means someone has a plan on paper, even if the studio has not stamped it yet.

So... what about Taylor Sheridan leaving?

Here is where it gets interesting. Multiple outlets, including Puck and The Hollywood Reporter, say Sheridan has signed a big new pact with Universal/NBCUniversal to develop film and TV. His Universal tenure reportedly kicks off with a movie going into production next year. But his television deal with Paramount is still in effect through the end of 2028. In other words: he has one foot in the next house, but he still lives in this one for a while.

Could Sheridan keep shepherding Landman for another season while that Paramount deal runs? If Season 2 followed Season 1 as quickly as it seems (less than a year between them), a similar turnaround could make a Season 3 with Sheridan plausible. That said, Paramount owns the series it commissioned from Sheridan, so if and when he ultimately exits, the company can plug in a new creative lead and keep the brand going. As of right now, nobody has announced which way Landman will go after Season 2.

Elliott on the cast, the crew, and heading back to Texas

Elliott also sounded genuinely happy to be on this job again. He called the team an incredible crew, noted that many of them are folks he worked with on 1883, and said going back to Texas to shoot is part of the fun. The vibe from him is: this one is a pleasure to clock into, which is not nothing.

Quick status check

  • Season 2 premiere: November 16 on Paramount+
  • Sam Elliott joined the cast for Season 2 and is already teasing a potential Season 3 (not officially ordered)
  • Taylor Sheridan: signed a new mega-deal at Universal/NBCUniversal; Universal work starts with a film next year; his Paramount TV deal runs through late 2028
  • Ownership: Paramount controls the Sheridan shows it commissioned, so Landman can continue with or without him
  • Current scores: IMDb 8.2/10, Rotten Tomatoes critics 78%, RT audience 65%

Bottom line: Season 2 lands November 16, the enthusiasm for more is already there, and the business side is in flux but not a deal-breaker. If the schedule gods line up and Paramount wants it, Season 3 feels very possible — Sheridan or no Sheridan.
