Fans will be waiting longer than expected—Episode 23 of the hit series has slipped further down the schedule.

Netflix's Sakamoto Days just wrapped its first season, and yeah, the finale slapped. If you're wondering where season 2 is and when episode 23 shows up, here’s what’s actually going on — no fluff, just the useful stuff.

So, is season 2 happening?

Short answer: not announced yet. Long answer: it would be shocking if it didn’t happen. The show pulled in 24 million views in the first half of 2025 (Netflix said that in July), which isn’t Naruto-level (45 million), but for a brand-new anime? That’s huge.

Season 1 ended on 22 September 2025 with episode 22, 'Each One's Mission', and silence after a finale is pretty normal in anime land — especially with TMS Entertainment, the studio behind this one. Given how many manga chapters are still untouched, you can safely assume the conversations about a second season are happening behind the scenes.

When could season 2 actually drop?

If I had to put money on it: early 2027 for the first cour, then summer 2027 for the second. In a perfect world, this would be an early-to-mid 2026 situation, but TMS Entertainment juggles a lot — Rent-a-Girlfriend, Dr. Stone, Honey Lemon Soda — and their follow-up seasons usually need at least a year between runs. That scheduling traffic jam can push things back.

The one wild card is Netflix. If they decide Sakamoto Days is a priority, the studio could fast-track it. If I hear anything that points to episode 23 landing sooner, I’ll update.

Wait, didn’t season 2 already air?

Nope — what just finished was still season 1. Anime uses 'cours', which is basically a block of 10–14 episodes. Sometimes a season is two cours back-to-back (or with a break) and it all still counts as one season. Jujutsu Kaisen did this with its first season; Sakamoto Days did too.

For this show: episodes 1–11 ran January to March 2025 (Part 1), and episodes 12–22 ran July to September 2025 (Part 2). Together, that’s all season 1.

Where the anime stops in the manga (and where to start reading)

The anime covers up through chapter 73. If you’re jumping into the manga, start at chapter 74. There’s a tiny bit of overlap around the finale, but since season 1 basically tees up the Japan Clear Creation arc, beginning at 74 keeps everything clean and consistent.

Where to watch

Sakamoto Days streams exclusively on Netflix in the US, UK, and most territories. It’s not on Crunchyroll (or other anime platforms) as of now.

Quick timeline and status

  • Jan–Mar 2025: Season 1 Part 1 (episodes 1–11)
  • Jul–Sep 2025: Season 1 Part 2 (episodes 12–22); finale 'Each One's Mission' aired 22 September 2025
  • Views: 24 million in the first half of 2025 (Netflix, July); for context, Naruto had 45 million
  • Season 2: not announced yet, but very likely
  • Best guess window: early 2027 for episode 23 and the first cour, summer 2027 for the second cour (could move up if Netflix fast-tracks it)
  • Manga handoff: start at chapter 74; anime covers through 73 and rolls into the Japan Clear Creation arc
  • Streaming: Netflix-exclusive; not on Crunchyroll

Why this show blew up (and why it matters for season 2)

Sakamoto Days blends 'former top-tier hitman becomes chill convenience store dad' with high-calorie action and loud comedy — basically John Wick energy filtered through anime absurdity. That combo clicked hard, which is why a second season feels all but inevitable. It’s just a matter of TMS finding the runway to take off again.
