Sadie Sink’s Spider-Man 4 Role Could Finally Put Jean Grey Rumors to Bed
Sadie Sink throws cold water on the Jean Grey chatter, revealing the rumors predate her involvement with Spider-Man: Brand New Day — a strong hint she isn’t Marvel’s next Phoenix.
Sadie Sink hears you, Marvel fans. The Jean Grey chatter has been loud for a while, and she finally addressed it. Short version: cool theory, wrong timeline.
So what did she actually say?
In a new chat with Entertainment Weekly, Sink said the Jean Grey rumors were already flying before she even knew she was circling a Marvel gig. As in, the internet cast her before Marvel ever did.
'That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project. I was like, Wait! What are people talking about?'
She also clarified that her first real conversations with Marvel started while she was shooting Stranger Things Season 5. Translation: the fan theory started first, then the job talks happened later.
Where she is right now: London, under a giant coat
Sink is currently in London filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is the project everyone is treating like Spider-Man 4 until Marvel says otherwise. Her role is still officially a secret, and Marvel is going out of its way to keep it that way. Paparazzi shots show her covered head to toe in a massive puffer jacket to hide the costume. Meanwhile, Tom Holland can wave freely because, well, everyone knows who he is. Sink joked that she looks like a bundled-up penguin shuffling past the cameras. Glamorous!
Who is she playing? Here are the theories (and what she thinks)
- The big one has been Jean Grey. Sink basically pumped the brakes on that, noting the rumor existed long before she had any idea she might do a Marvel project.
- Another popular guess: Rachel Cole-Alves, the Punisher ally. Toss in a few other red-haired Marvel characters and you get the internet’s mood board.
- Sink’s take on the hair-based casting logic: hair color can change. She gets the speculation, but she’s done reading the theories. Her stance now is simple: wait and see.
The vibe: keep guessing, but it sounds like answers are coming
Marvel still hasn’t confirmed who Sink plays, and she’s fine letting the mystery breathe. She sounded pretty ready for all the noise to calm down once her character is revealed.
And beyond the webs: stage time for Sink
Outside of the Spider-Man bubble, Sink is keeping busy. You probably know her as Max from Stranger Things, but she’s also headed back to the stage to play Juliet in a West End production of Romeo & Juliet. On top of that, she just scored her first Tony nomination for John Proctor Is the Villain. Film, TV, theater — she’s juggling all three.
