Netflix kicks off 2026 with Run Away, an eight-episode limited thriller from Harlan Coben, the mind behind The Stranger and Stay Close, delivering his signature twist-packed storytelling when it premieres January 1, 2026.

Netflix is kicking off 2026 with a new Harlan Coben mind-bender. Run Away is an eight-episode limited series dropping New Year’s Day — all at once, obviously — and it’s exactly what you think a Coben show is going to be: missing kid, family secrets, and twist after twist after twist.

What is Run Away actually about?

James Nesbitt plays Simon Greene, a dad whose life craters when his eldest daughter, Paige (Ellie de Lange), bolts. The premiere starts with Simon tracking her down in a city park, where she’s in rough shape and clearly using. Their reunion goes sideways fast, turns violent, and then she’s gone again.

From there, Simon dives into some very sketchy corners trying to get her back. He crosses paths with private investigator Elena Ravencroft, who’s looking for Paige too. They’re forced to decide whether to team up or keep each other at arm’s length, which — shocker — gets complicated when a guy Paige was last seen with, Aaron, turns up murdered. Simon thinks Aaron might have been keeping Paige against her will. Detective Isaac Fagbenle, Elena, and Simon all push deeper, and what they find threatens to blow the Greene family apart.

Release plan

All 8 episodes land on Netflix January 1, 2026. No episode titles yet; expect those to surface late December or right on launch day. It’s a limited series, so you’re getting one contained story you can binge in a day if you’re feeling ambitious (or hungover).

Who’s making it (and where)?

This one adapts Coben’s book but shifts the action from the US to the UK, with production based in Manchester, England. Coben — the guy behind Netflix hits The Stranger and Stay Close — is an executive producer here. Quay Street Productions is the company behind it, and the season’s directed by Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota.

Cast and the vibe

Nesbitt is your anchor, with Ellie de Lange as Paige. Minnie Driver and Ruth Jones are in the mix, plus Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing, and Alfred Enoch (yes, from Harry Potter). If you’ve watched any Coben show, you know the drill: characters with secrets, a murder that spins the plot like a centrifuge, and reveals that drop just when you think you’ve got it pegged.

  • Premiere: January 1, 2026 (Netflix, US)
  • Episodes: 8 (all dropping the same day)
  • Format: Limited series
  • Based on: Run Away by Harlan Coben
  • Setting/filming: UK, shot in Manchester
  • Directors: Nimer Rashed, Isher Sahota
  • Executive producer: Harlan Coben
  • Production company: Quay Street Productions
  • Main cast: James Nesbitt, Ellie de Lange, Minnie Driver, Ruth Jones, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing
  • Expect: Twist-heavy mystery, missing-daughter thriller, a murdered link named Aaron, and a PI named Elena Ravencroft and Detective Isaac Fagbenle complicating Simon’s search
  • Episode titles: Not released yet; likely late December or on launch day

If you like your New Year viewing tense and twisty, this looks like a very solid couch appointment. And yes, Coben fans, it’s got that signature slow-burn chaos he does so well.
