A comprehensive checklist of every detail about the next installment of the hit heist drama.

As a rule of thumb, every BBC production is a masterpiece. Sure, we may be biased in this regard, and you don't have to take our word for it, but there's plenty of proof that it's true. Take Ghosts, for example! While the CBS version is a hit in its own right, hilarious and fascinating, it can't hold a candle to the original sitcom produced by the BBC. British Ghosts, which premiered in 2019, ran for five seasons, the most recent of which ended less than a month ago.

In terms of drama, BBC has a lot to offer as well. This year saw the premiere of a new show called The Gold. The historical drama, which follows the infamous 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery, was an instant hit upon its debut in February. Spanning just six episodes, the show won over audiences with its compelling storytelling. Naturally, fans have been eager for another installment of The Gold.

Now that it's been announced that Season 2 is in the works, let's take a look at what we know so far about the upcoming season.

The Cast Will Return

The Gold's stars Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, Tom Cullen, Emun Elliott, Stefanie Martini and Sam Spruell have been confirmed to reprise their roles in Season 2 of the fan-favorite BBC heist drama. With a number of new characters to be introduced in the second installment, more actors are expected to be cast before filming can begin.

Filming

The Gold Season 2 will reportedly begin filming in January 2024. Therefore, it is unlikely that it will return in February following the original release schedule.

Episode Count

Like the first installment, The Gold Season 2 will have just six action-packed episodes, meaning that you won't be able to think of anything else but the story.

Plot

Since the first season explored the robbery in question, the second installment is said to delve into its aftermath. When the detectives learn that they've only recovered half of the £26 million worth of stolen bullion, diamonds and cash, they'll have to search for the rest by breaking up the criminal networks that have grown up around the money.

A Solely BBC Project

Season 1 of The Gold was produced by the BBC in association with Paramount+, which distributed the show in the US. It's been reported that the streaming service isn't interested in Season 2, so it remains to be seen if the second installment of the heist drama will be available to American audiences.
