MGM+ is heading back to Sherwood: Robin Hood scores a Season 2 renewal nearly two months after the Season 1 finale.

Well, that didn’t take long. Less than two months after Robin Hood wrapped its first season, MGM+ is officially pulling the bowstring on Season 2.

MGM+ sticks with the outlaw

The streamer has renewed Robin Hood and is moving fast: casting for Season 2 kicks off soon. The plan is to widen the map in a big way, pushing past Sherwood and Nottingham into the halls of power across England, France, and Rome. That’s a pretty ambitious travel itinerary for a guy who usually sticks to the trees.

"Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the U.S. and abroad has been exceptional. We’re thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see where they take us next."

That’s from Michael Wright, the global head of MGM+. Creators John Glenn and Jonathan English will keep steering the ship.

Where Season 1 left us

The series debuted on MGM+ on Nov. 2, 2025, anchored by Jack Pattern as Robin Hood and Lauren McQueen as Maid Marion, with Sean Bean chewing scenery as the Sheriff of Nottingham. The 10-episode run wrapped on Dec. 28, 2025. If you were wondering whether that finale cliffhanger meant anything, the answer is yes: the show is sticking around.

Why this version is working

Robin Hood has been through more reinventions than a pop star. Some have aged into legend; others, not so much. On the film side, the 2018 Robin Hood faceplanted with critics and at the box office. TV, though, has treated the outlaw better: the 2006 BBC series with Jonas Armstrong, Lucy Griffiths, and Richard Armitage ran three seasons, and the character later threaded into Once Upon a Time, first via Tom Ellis and then Sean Maguire, who became a series regular. MGM+ seems to have found a lane that actually fits the character: serialized, character-forward, and willing to play with history without snapping it in half.

  • On the long list of famous Robins: Errol Flynn’s swashbuckler, Disney’s fox-eared archer, Kevin Costner, Cary Elwes, Russell Crowe, and Taron Egerton. It’s crowded company, and this series is aiming to stand shoulder to shoulder with the classics rather than imitate them.

What Season 2 is teeing up

With new casting underway, expect fresh nobles, schemers, and church power players as the story pushes into royal courts across Europe. If Season 1 was about outlaws vs. authority, Season 2 looks ready to test Robin’s code against international politics and the church’s influence. Bigger board, bigger stakes.

Meanwhile, on the big screen

While you wait for Season 2, a separate take on the legend is headed to theaters on Jun. 19, 2026. The Death of Robin Hood stars Hugh Jackman as an older, end-of-the-line Robin trying to square his past. Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) is directing, and the pitch sounds like a myth deconstruction with a scarred, heavy-lift performance at the center.

For now: arrows notched, renewal secured. Let the courtly chaos begin.
