The Guardian Angel was once an obnoxious cheerleader.

The surreal mess of unfinished storylines known as Riverdale ended over a month ago, but we still can't seem to get over it. And yet, for all its flaws and questionable plot twists, the Archie Comics-based show did not disappoint, offering lots of campiness, self-aware absurdity, and overall insane entertainment.

However, one character was a little too overlooked by the writers. We're talking about Tabitha Tate. Riverdale's guardian angel not only saved the town but also restored balance to the universe and allowed the Core Four to live happy lives. Erinn Westbrook, who portrayed Tabitha, became a genuine ray of sunshine in the dark madness of the show, thanks to her sparkle and charm. But did you know the actress played a much less likable character in another teen drama, Glee?

Erinn Westbrook as Tabitha Tate

Westbrook is an incredibly talented actress whose acting prowess has been proven multiple times. It probably shouldn't come as a surprise, seeing how she perfected her skills by studying English Literature and Dramatic Arts at Harvard!

Even before Riverdale, Erinn landed prominent recurring and supporting roles in high-profile shows like Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, Awkward, and, of course, another teen drama, Insatiable, where she played one of the lead roles.

However, it was the role of Tabitha that really put her on the map. An original character with no counterpart in the Archie comics, she instantly won the hearts of fans in Season 5, fitting perfectly into Riverdale and becoming its guardian angel, both figuratively and literally.

Role on Glee

Tabitha is even more of a contrast to Westbrook's role on Glee. She played Bree, a McKinley High student and the unspoken leader of the Cheerios (along with Kitty), who tormented the Glee Club and was constantly making inappropriate comments. It's worth noting how transphobic she was at first about Unique or how she seduced Jake (who was little better, willing to sleep with any girl).

Erinn Westbrook shared how she landed the role, telling Entertainment Tonight in 2013 that casting directors were primarily looking for skills, and the role itself was never revealed during the auditions.

'I love to sing, I love to dance, I love to act, so clearly I gravitated towards this show prior to the audition,' she said.

It takes no small amount of talent and charisma to play characters who evoke antipathy in the audience, and considering that Erinn found out who she was playing only later, we can only admire her skill. And the stark contrast between Bree and Tabitha is another testament to Westbrook's impressive range.
