Looks like Daisy Ridley's return to a galaxy far, far away is going to take a bit longer—again.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm has quietly put the upcoming Rey movie, New Jedi Order, on hold. Not canceled, just back on the shelf while the studio focuses on other Star Wars projects—namely Shawn Levy's Starfighter and James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi, both of which are reportedly moving forward first.

That's right—New Jedi Order, the film that was supposed to continue Rey's story post-Rise of Skywalker, is once again in development limbo.

The project's had a revolving door of writers. First up was Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, who submitted a draft that Lucasfilm… politely passed on. Then Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) took a crack at it, and now George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum, Ocean's 12) is the latest to be handed the lightsaber. But even with a solid writer in place, it seems the studio's attention is elsewhere.

Richtman's exact words:

"The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold."

Daisy Ridley addressed the delays back in February, staying optimistic despite Lucasfilm pulling the film's release date from their schedule. She framed the situation as a good thing—more time to get the script right and avoid rushing into production just to hit a deadline.

Her full quote:

"People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and I don't think any fans would want it to be rushed. The wait will be worth it. I know what George [Nolfi] is working on, and he is a phenomenal writer. So I'm really looking forward to reading it, and yes, it's all worthwhile."

To be fair, Lucasfilm hitting the pause button on a project isn't exactly rare. They've had more shelved Star Wars films than actual releases in the last five years. But it's still disappointing for fans who were hoping to see what Rey Skywalker does next.

There are rumors that Ridley may show up in another project down the line—possibly one of the films tied to Simon Kinberg's in-development trilogy, which is said to include sequel-era characters.

But for now, New Jedi Order is stuck in hyperspace traffic. Again.
