Early 2024 KPop Demon Hunters concept art has surfaced, igniting fresh buzz among fans.

Early KPop Demon Hunters art popped back up, and yeah — the movie almost had a very different look. Not worse, just a sharper, edgier vibe than what ended up on Netflix.

The resurfaced art

VFX artist Matthew McDonald posted a piece of concept art on Twitter back in February 2024 that shows a version of the film with a more angular design and some noticeably different character styling. It is one of those inside-baseball peeks that makes you go, oh, this could have been a whole other flavor.

"Extremely excited about the next project I get to work on..."

  • The image has the three members of the in-world girl group Hunter/x seen from behind, performing to a packed stadium, their demon-hunting weapons hidden behind them.
  • Above the stage, the Honmoon are watching from behind a colorful barrier.
  • The girls have different hairstyles than in the final movie, and the overall character art leans more angular and graphic.

Fans immediately started decoding. One reply winked at Hunter/x's big single, wondering if it was going to be 'golden.' Another joked that the trio sure look like hunters — maybe even demon hunters — and hey, it would be pretty funny if they were K-pop stars too. Subtlety is dead, and that is fine.

Quick refresher on the movie

KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — voiced by Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo — who perform as the K-pop trio Hunter/x and, after hours, carry on a family legacy as demon hunters. Their not-so-secret weapon: their singing voices, which they use to protect the world from demons. It is exactly as high-concept as it sounds.

How big did it get on Netflix?

Since its release in June, KPop Demon Hunters has turned into a monster hit. On Netflix's 91-day viewership tracking, it pulled in 325.1 million views — enough to nab the top overall movie spot and edge past Dwayne Johnson's Red Notice. However you feel about the algorithm, that is a wild number.

Where to watch

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix.
