Only one actor managed to appeal to the audience this season.

For two seasons now, Netflix's Sweet Magnolias has been building itself up as one of the most compelling melodramas in the streaming giant's library. That's why fans were fully expecting the third season to cement it as such and finally dethrone Virgin River as the service's best drama series.

However, the recently released Season 3 proved to be quite a disappointment. People complain that the overall quality of the show was thrown out the window, with both the acting and writing flopping so badly that fans were forced to skip through some scenes.

But even in a season riddled with so many disastrous creative decisions, one actor managed to keep the show from falling apart, working hard to make even the atrocious writing feel somewhat realistic. And no, we are not talking about the main trio of actresses, as JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley all failed to adapt to the steep decline in writing quality.

Instead, a minor character finally got the attention he deserved: Brandon Quinn's Ronnie Sullivan was named the best character of Sweet Magnolias Season 3, and for good reason.

Even though Dana Sue's estranged husband is pretty weird as a person, all thanks to the cringeworthy lines and character development he was given by the series' writers, Quinn managed to handle Ronnie's subpar storylines really well, surprising viewers with his quality performance.

'The writing is so bad, it's an accomplishment any of [the actors] made it through. Ronnie though? His character is so unbelievable and [Quinn] tries to save it,' a fan noted on Reddit.

Viewers claim Ronnie and Ty are really the only two characters that feel like real people, and that really speaks volumes about Quinn and Carson Rowland's commitment to the project.

'[The best character] has to be either Ty or Ronnie. Tyler is charismatic enough that he can get away with really cringey material (like the birthday song or trying to hit on his tutor) and Ronnie is really subdued and believable compared to the rest of this wacky town,' another Redditor commented.

We hope Netflix's producers allow the fan-favorite characters to evolve further in Sweet Magnolias Season 4 and improve the overall writing quality in future installments.
