Let's face it. Many of us watch Virgin River as a guilty pleasure because it is so much fun and takes us out of the real world.

Unfortunately, this effect is often achieved by storylines that just don't make sense. And that doesn't sit well with viewers who tend to prefer logical and realistic stories. Here are just a few examples of the unbelievable arcs that the series has shown over its four-season run.

Paige Killing Wes

Fans find the whole accidental death of Paige's abusive ex-husband and its aftermath implausible. First of all, it is not that easy to die from falling down a single flight of stairs when you are a big, healthy adult. But even so, it is hard to explain why Paige and Preacher would bury the body instead of calling the sheriff and claiming self-defense.

Preacher Confiding In Connie

What's more, fans don't understand why Preacher would trust Connie, the town's big mouth, with something as volatile as murder. How could he expect her to keep a secret like that?

Paige Being Unreasonably Careless

When Paige fled Virgin River after the accidental death of her ex-husband, fans found it implausible that she wouldn't take basic precautions like cutting and dyeing her hair or destroying the driver's license with her real identity on it.

Paternity Revelations

The revelation that Jack is the father of Mel's baby and not the father of Charmaine's twins shocked many viewers with its implausibility. Fans find it hard to believe that Jack would not have asked for a paternity test and Mel would not have insisted on one.

Destroying Mark's T-Shirt

Many fans were upset when Mel used her late husband's collectible T-shirt to have Hope make a toy boat sail and release it into the water as a tribute to Mark.

Viewers felt that the T-shirt was too unique to be desecrated like that. Besides, Mel knew it was connected to Mark's father, and it would be more believable if she gave it to his family instead of the ring.

Now that Virgin River Season 5 is expected to premiere on Netflix in July 2023, fans are waiting to see where the show full of inconsistencies will go with its storylines. Well, maybe the best thing to do with Virgin River is to give up trying to find logic and just give in to the fantasy.
