It’s time to fly that flag with Pride!

Heartstopper was (pretty much) just one giant sugar rush.

So if you're in the mood for something just as sweet, check out these shows for more eye candy.

1. Heartbreak High

This teen drama is actually based on a play in which a young teacher has an affair with a student. The show is a little more wholesome, exploring the usual coming-of-age experiences from the point of view of a teenage couple. It's pretty much what you'd expect from the genre and has a similar feel to Heartstopper, but through the lens of a heterosexual couple.

2. Love, Victor

Inspired by the movie Love, Simon, this show follows Victor Salazar (Michael Cimino) as he navigates life at a new school while discovering himself and figuring out his sexuality. It has similar themes to Heartstopper, and the three seasons allow for plenty of character development as we see Victor and his family adjust to his coming out.

3. Skam

Skam broke streaming records in Norway as its popularity exploded when it first aired in 2013. Each season follows a different teenage protagonist and the show tackles a wide range of topics, including sexuality and mental health. Despite some hard-hitting storylines, it can be sweet and should prove popular with fans of Heartstopper.

4. Never Have I Ever

A US teen drama in which the main character suffers the death of her mother and a debilitating condition. Despite this, the show manages to remain upbeat and, like Heartstopper, explores the myriad of emotions faced by a teenager who discovers they're gay and wonders how, when (and whether) to come out.

5. Prisma

This Italian coming-of-age drama deals with issues of gender fluidity, sexuality, bullying and the risks of social media. It's not a comedy-drama by any means, but there are some real moments of sweetness throughout.

Each of these shows deals with similar issues in a slightly different way, but they all send out the message that it's OK not to know who you are and to go through a process of finding out. Perhaps more importantly for anyone struggling with their own identity, they also show that if you are open about it, you can usually rely on your family and friends to support you.

Coming-of-age shows tend to be a mix of grit and sugar - but the sweetness always wins through.
