Rachel Zegler Controversy Proves Disney Didn't Learn Its Lesson With Brie Larson
The fans are already tired of Zegler's antics.
Disney's penchant for remaking the animated classics of the 20th century has caused quite a bit of controversy over the years, but it looks like the producers are still not learning their lessons. Despite the less-than-positive reaction to The Little Mermaid earlier this year, the studio is now filming another remake of the beloved original — Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs — with Rachel Zegler playing the iconic princess.
And while fans had their doubts the moment the movie was announced, the main star's comments proved that nothing good can come out of this blockbuster remake.
During a recent interview, Rachel Zegler shared her dislike for the original 1937 animated film, calling it dated and anti-feminist. The actress took offense to the fact that Snow White dreams of being with the Prince, which is apparently not something modern cinema should promote.
Zegler revealed that, instead of the love story, the remake will focus on Snow White's quest for power. Obviously, this idea disappointed and angered millions of Disney fans around the world.
People hated the actress' comments and wondered why the upcoming movie is called a remake even though the original story is being severely altered. In addition, it appears that Disney producers are repeating the same mistake over and over again, casting actors who promote negativity in their lead roles, which alienates a lot of the potential audience.
Brie Larson has been one of the most controversial Disney stars in recent memory. The actress' comments about Marvel fans being anti-feminist and misogynistic caused a huge controversy when she was cast as Captain Marvel.
'The real question is why do you want your actors to be disliked? It didn't work that well with Brie Larson, it's not going to work with Rachel Zegler, who seems to be quite unlikeable and is going to be in a much worse movie,' one fan wondered.
The original Snow White, which premiered in 1937, was produced by Walt Disney himself and basically started the whole studio. The film still makes millions of dollars on an annual basis, so it's surprising that the studio's producers allow their next breakout star to say such negative things about the movie.
If the studio execs are trying to shade Walt Disney for producing Snow White, they should probably change their company's name and refuse to profit from the things invented by the legendary animator. And besides, why is Zegler saying such things when she's supposed to be on strike?
