Quick Recap: 10 Key Things to Remember Before Virgin River Season 5
Let's refresh your memory.
In the blink of an eye, Virgin River will return to Netflix with ten new episodes. Scheduled for September 7, the Season 5 premiere has fans on the edge of their seats with anticipation. The upcoming chapter is set to introduce new compelling characters and dramatic storylines, as well as pick up on last season's twists and cliffhangers, which may be fuzzy in your mind after over a year off.
Let's make sure you come to September 7 fully prepared and remember the major storylines that happened in Virgin River Season 4 and could have a direct impact on what's to come.
Charmaine's Revelation
Probably the biggest cliffhanger of the Season 4 finale is Charmaine's surprise confession that her twins are not Jack's, made in a moment of weakness caused by her breakup with Todd. While the news gives Jack a measure of freedom, Charmaine will most likely remain in his life in Season 5. And the mystery of the real father is one of the most intriguing right now.
Don't Expect to See This Fan-Favorite Virgin River Character in Season 5 Anytime Soon
Jack and Mel's Relationship
Virgin River's main relationship took a delightful turn in Season 4 when Mel's baby turned out to be Jack's. The discovery was caused by a disturbing story involving the mother of Mel's late husband claiming custody of the embryos. But thankfully, the gods of Virgin River were kind enough to put everything and everyone in their proper place.
Not only that, but Jack asked Mel to marry him and she said yes, so we are probably in for a beautiful, heartwarming wedding.
Doc's Practice
Doc was seemingly left without help at the end of Season 4, as both of his employees, Mel and Dr. Cameron, decided to quit. The reason was that the new doctor fell for the protagonist and tried to interfere in her relationship with Jack. This created an atmosphere in the clinic that neither could tolerate, so both handed in their resignations. Doc will have to resolve the situation in Season 5.
Denny's Illness
To make matters worse for Doc, his newfound grandson turned out to be terminally ill with Huntington's disease. While Doc doesn't yet know about Denny's condition, it's clear that the boy came to Virgin River to spend his final moments with his remaining family. And that will likely be the focus of Season 5.
Hope's Health Problems
Denny is not the only sick person in the house. Throughout Season 4, Hope was having problems with memory and motor functions, as she was struggling to recover from the brain injury she suffered in the car accident. On the bright side, her relationship with Doc became stronger than ever and she even found an unlikely friendship with Muriel.
Hopefully, in Season 5, Hope will make a full recovery and help Doc through the hardships that lie ahead.
Brie's Ex
Jack's sister had a huge character development in Season 4 when viewers and her new love interest, Brady, learned about the sexual assault Brie suffered at the hands of her ex, Don.
In the Season 4 finale, Don came to Brie's house to demand that she keep quiet about the assault. This angered Brie and she decided to press charges against Don, which has set up a huge and compelling arc for Season 5.
Preacher's Troubles
Another major Season 4 cliffhanger is the fate of Vince, the twin brother of Paige's abusive ex-husband Wes, whom she accidentally killed in Season 2. Vince came to Virgin River looking for Paige and kidnapped her son Christopher.
In a dramatic twist, Preacher knocked out Vince when he threatened Paige, presumably killing him. There's no doubt that this will have an impact on Preacher's arc and his new relationship with Julia.
Ricky's Exit and Lizzie
Fans loved the young couple, but unfortunately, their relationship ended in Season 4 after Ricky betrayed Lizzie's trust by enlisting in the Marines without telling her. Ricky left Virgin River for at least one season in a heart-wrenching farewell scene, and now Lizzie seems to be more interested in Denny.
Tara and Chloe's Story
Lilly passed away in Season 3, but the storylines resulting from her death are still affecting other characters. Hope is having a hard time coming to terms with her friend's death, and Tara is struggling with being a parent to her baby sister, Chloe.
There's no doubt that Tara and Chloe's story will continue into Season 5, probably with some unexpected developments.
Melissa's Threat
Probably the biggest surprise of Season 4 was that Melissa turned out to be a real drug kingpin of Virgin River. What's more, she was revealed to be Nick's sister, which complicates things for the lead couple.
Nick has invested in Jack's new business, and there seems to be no way Melissa won't try to launder her dirty money through it.
