Queen Charlotte's Nominations Make Fans Wonder if Bridgerton's Emmy Worthy
It looks like Netflix should stop betting big on Bridgerton.
Netflix's Bridgerton is one of the most popular franchises the streaming service has at the moment, with millions of viewers rewatching the show and eagerly awaiting the release of Season 3. Moreover, the romance series' spin-off Queen Charlotte, which premiered in May of this year, also became a huge hit, proving that the Bridgerton universe can attract even more viewers with brand-new stories, besides those based on Julia Quinn's novel series.
However, as we all know, being popular with fans and being popular with critics are two different things, and it looks like Bridgerton's fame is not making industry professionals shower Netflix with awards.
It was clear that Netflix had big plans for Queen Charlotte at this year's Emmy Awards, throwing parties, buying ads in trade magazines, and hosting countless interviews for the stars of the spin-off. Queen Charlotte was submitted for all the major nominations, including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress, and a number of other technical awards.
Now that the Emmy 2023 nominees have finally been announced, fans were shocked that the show managed to get three nominations in total. But don't get excited about it because all of those nominations are completely secondary.
As it turns out, Queen Charlotte got nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Hairstyling, and Best Original Song — not the most important awards, don't you think? Besides, considering how much time and money Netflix spent promoting the spin-off as the real Emmy contender, fans are now pretty sure that Bridgerton is just not Emmy-worthy at all.
'When QC came out, people were pretending it was the pinnacle of TV writing or something and thought it would do better than the original series in terms of awards, and it obviously didn't end up being the case. That's despite the crazy campaign the show's been getting for months. I think people just gotta admit Bridgerton universe is not really Emmy-worthy,' a fan commented on Reddit.
It looks like even fans of the show think no one will ever give Bridgerton any awards after the first season, so perhaps it's time for Netflix to focus more on making their shows better than trying to shove a lackluster romantic drama down the throats of the Emmy voting committee.
