Queen Charlotte's Brimsley & Reynolds Mistake Made It Into the Final Cut
The actors' mistake made an important scene even better.
While the love story between young Queen Charlotte and King George took center stage in the Bridgerton spin-off, the show also featured another romance that stole the hearts of fans.
The queer relationship between the Queen's helper Brimsley and the King's secretary Reynolds was depicted by Shonda Rhimes' team with much tenderness, making viewers fall in love with the couple and their dynamics.
Throughout the show, the two men's interest in each other developed into full-blown love, culminating in a wonderful scene in which Brimsley and Reynolds leave the ball to dance together to the distant strains of music. This scene was both beautiful and heartbreaking, as a sudden cut to the future showed the elder Brimsley dancing alone, meaning that Reynolds had probably died at some point, leaving his soulmate alone.
But even this sad revelation didn't take away from the tender beauty of the scene, which is effectively one of the most powerful moments in all of Bridgerton history. However, it turns out that the actors didn't do their parts perfectly, and their mistake actually made it into the final cut.
While it's not hard to miss, especially considering how emotionally charged this scene is, actors Sam Clemmett and Freddie Dennis made a mistake during the dance, failing to keep the rhythm. However, this moment of awkwardness made the scene even more compelling, forcing the producers to keep this take for the final version.
'We were so nervous — there's a particular take that one of us, or maybe both of us, messed up the dance, and then we fall into a fit of hysterics. That's actually in the final episode. That made the cut. So, watching that moment where we had messed up, and we know we've kind of messed up, just brought the joy of what that scene is and what it meant to us,' Clemmett said.
Queen Charlotte's creative team managed to see the truth in this failed take and decided not to cut it out of the episode. And it looks like it was the best possible decision, as viewers loved this moment to death and saw it as further proof that Reynolds and Brimsley were made for each other.
