Professionals Find This Ted Lasso Season 3 Plot Line Creepy & Disgusting
The latest 'villain' of Apple TV’s feel-good comedy Ted Lasso has been revealed for Season 3.
The plot line goes beyond creepy to the average viewer - professionals in the field of therapy have said that it crosses a lot of ethical boundaries.
Mental health has been at the forefront of the series since Season 2 when Dr. Sharon Fieldstone was brought to AFC Richmond to help rid Dani of his yips. After her resounding success, she was brought on full-time.
Ted was a little bit skeptical. He revealed that he wasn’t a fan of therapy, rooted in his experience in couple’s therapy with his now-ex-wife, Michelle.
'I just kinda felt like I was being set up,' he said. 'Like I was going in there not to be listened to, but rather just to hear about all the things I’d been doing wrong.'
As it turns out, he had a lot of reasons to be skeptical. In the first episode of the new season, Ted learned about 'mommy’s friend, Jake' while talking to their son, Henry. Two episodes later, Ted called Michelle’s home to wish Henry luck before his soccer match. Michelle’s 'friend' picked up - leading to an understandably awkward conversation.
Not only did Ted confirm that his ex-wife was seeing someone, but he found out that it was none other than the pair’s former couples’ therapist, Dr. Jacob.
Before the couple went into couples therapy, Dr. Jacob was Michelle’s personal therapist. Dr. Jacob eventually started seeing the two of them together. That’s already a tremendous conflict of interest.
Now that Dr. Jacob is dating his ex-client, it’s clear that he had poor intentions from the start.
He saw Michelle as a client and fell for her. He spent their sessions pushing her away from Ted, eventually getting them to join couples therapy with him. When they did, it was an anti-Ted ambush that surely played a part in their eventual divorce.
Dr. Jacob used his inside knowledge of Michelle’s psyche and marital issues to sabotage the relationship. Ted was utterly right to be shunned by his experience in therapy in Season 2.
Fans who work in the therapy field have called it an absolutely disgusting act by the mental health 'professional.'
Counseling a couple after working with one of the spouses is a gray area, but dating the person you counseled after their divorce is despicable.
Ted was understandably livid when he found out. Fans can watch the drama unfold every Wednesday on Apple TV+.
