Apple TV+ unleashes Pluribus, a razor-sharp sci-fi from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan, with Rhea Seehorn leading alongside Karolina Wydra and Carlos Manuel Vesga. Its nine-episode first season lands with serious must-watch energy.

Vince Gilligan is back with a curveball: a near-future sci-fi drama on Apple TV+ called Pluribus. If you know his work, you know the vibe: patient, tense, morally thorny. This time the stakes are weirdly optimistic and deeply unsettling, and Rhea Seehorn is front and center. I am already interested.

The hook

Pluribus is set in a near-future Albuquerque after a global experiment goes sideways and basically flips a switch on humanity. Almost everyone on Earth becomes perfectly content - no pain, no anger, no sadness. It is bliss by default. Except for one person: Carol Sturka, played by Better Call Saul standout Rhea Seehorn. She is somehow immune, which makes her the outlier and, inconveniently, the only person who can do anything about it.

"the most miserable person on Earth" and the one who might have to "save the world from happiness"

That is the official logline, and yes, the irony is the point. Gilligan is leaning into a sleek, grounded sci-fi lens, but the engine is still character and consequence.

Who is making it (and who is in it)

Pluribus is created and steered by Vince Gilligan, the guy behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Rhea Seehorn leads as Carol Sturka, with Karolina Wydra and Carlos Manuel Vesga also starring. Gilligan is bringing his slow-burn suspense and moral dilemmas to a premise that feels futuristic without drifting into space opera. Also, setting it in Albuquerque again is a fun nod for longtime fans, even if this is a completely different sandbox.

Release plan

Season 1 runs 9 episodes. Apple is doing a two-episode premiere on Friday, November 7, 2025, then rolling out one episode every Friday through the finale on December 26, 2025. Episode titles and runtimes are still under wraps.

Where to watch

Pluribus streams only on Apple TV+. You can watch through the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, smart TVs, and gaming consoles. An Apple TV+ subscription currently runs around $9.99 per month after a 7-day free trial for new users. If you are already in the Apple ecosystem, Apple One bundles are an option.

Quick take

Gilligan doing near-future sci-fi with Rhea Seehorn in the lead sounds like the good kind of risk. The premise is high-concept but uncomfortably plausible, and the tone promises mystery, moral knots, and that slow squeeze Gilligan loves. Apple might have its next obsession-worthy series on deck.
