Persona 3 Reload Anniversary Update Delivers The Comeback Fans Wanted: The Original PS2-Era Vocalist Returns
Persona 3 endures as a personal treasure—a reminder of why its legacy refuses to fade.
Good news if you have Persona 3 lyrics burned into your brain from the PS2 days: the original voice behind those tracks is officially back in Persona 3 Reload. No need to choose sides anymore — you can have the Reload mixes and the classic vocals living together in your settings menu like civilized adults.
What is actually changing
Atlus is dropping a patch on October 23 that adds eight songs performed by the original Persona 3 vocalist, Yumi Kawamura. You can assign them as dungeon or battle BGM from the options menu. The update lands on all platforms the same day the game launches on Nintendo Switch 2, which Atlus flagged in a post on October 22.
The returning tracks
- Burn My Dread -Last Battle-
- Mass Destruction
- Deep Mentality
- When The Moon's Reaching Out Stars
- Want to Be Close
- Memories of You
- Mass Destruction -P3fes Version-
- Brand New Days
Why this matters (and why the timing is interesting)
Persona is basically a music franchise that also happens to have life-sim RPGs attached, and Persona 3 is stacked with needle-drop moments. Reload reimagined those songs with new vocals — many lines were rerecorded by Azumi Takahashi — and, to be clear, those tracks absolutely work. Still, plenty of fans missed Kawamura's sound. This patch neatly splits the difference by letting you choose which voice fills your head during fights and Tartarus runs.
Also worth noting: the patch is arriving the same day as the Switch 2 version. That kind of day-and-date update across platforms is a nice touch — nobody is waiting around while another platform gets the cool stuff first.
'It's been a while! I'm truly overjoyed and grateful to be reunited with everyone again,' Kawamura said alongside the announcement. 'Persona 3 is a treasure to me as well – I can't help but feel excited. Old friends, will you fight alongside me once more? New friends, how about letting my songs aid you in battle? Let's celebrate together. Thank you for your continued support!'
Quick take
I like Takahashi's Reload performances a lot, but having Kawamura back as an option is an easy win. Whether you want the new vibe or the classic bite, you can dial in the soundtrack the way you remember it — or mix and match for fun. More choice, no downside.
